Before checking out this Nonprofit Quarterly article written by members of the CFNE Learning Team, anchor yourself with this intro from our Executive Director:

“I am thrilled you have an opportunity to read some of the latest thinking of CFNE’s Program Director, Carolyn Edsell-Vetter, and Ecosystem Strategy Manager, Johan Matthews.

CFNE has long operated at the edges of different ecosystems: bridging different co-op sectors; connecting banks and worker owned businesses; serving in rural and urban communities; introducing leaders of the past and leaders of the future. We’re proud to leverage our 50-year history, including being part of the inaugural class of certified Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), to support cutting edge cooperatives and the humane economy they foster. We pooled community capital (largely from individual community investors) for this work long before “impact investing” was a catchphrase.

Carolyn and Johan foreground their experiences learning and teaching about cooperative opportunity. These Postcards from the Edge, provide a view from the edges, inspiring snapshots of the light and the shadows, so that together we can keep exploring and moving this work forward.”
