Do you live in Michigan or Pennsylvania? You should read this 🙂

CFNE was founded over 50 years ago to connect cooperatives with the kind of patient, flexible capital they need to get established and thrive.

Where do we get the capital to do that?

The cooperative community members and supporters who founded CFNE in 1975 kicked things off by investing $60,000 of their own money. They envisioned a virtuous cycle, where community-minded investors could align their money with their values, and cooperatives could access that money to achieve their goals.

Since then our loan fund has grown to over $65 million, its largest size yet. Nearly 75% of those funds come from roughly 450 social notes program investors. The majority are individuals, but many are faith-based groups, foundations, co-ops, and nonprofits. They invest anywhere from $1,000 up to millions.

Together with other capital sources those community-generated funds add up to a loan fund capable of deploying $52 million to over 150 cooperative businesses, grocery stores, affordable houses, and resident-owned communities across the northeast.

Every co-op has an impact, and each impact has a story. Read about some of the incredible co-op journeys we’ve supported on our Co-op Stories page!

For our social notes investors, the Prospectus is where it all begins.

Any person or institution interested in investing should first review the Prospectus. We update it on an annual basis, around this time of year. You can always find the most recent version on the Invest page of our website.

This year there have not been any changes to the terms of CFNE notes – we are still offering the same interest rates and other terms as we did last year. The only changes you you’ll see in this new Prospectus are:

  • Michigan and Pennsylvania have been added to the list of US states and territories in which CFNE offers investments. We are excited to welcome MI and PA investors into our community!
  • Disclosures, financial reports, and organizational activity have been updated.

Fyi, if you are currently an investor with us, this new version of the Prospectus does not impact your existing investments. It would only come into play if you decided to establish a new one. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions!

The purchase of CFNE’s securities are unsecured debt securities is subject to terms, conditions and risks, which are described in our Prospectus, including risk of possible loss of the amount invested. Payment is dependent on CFNE’s financial condition at the time payment is due.   This is not an offer to sell you our securities. The offering is made solely by the Prospectus and only in states or jurisdictions where authorized.  and we are not soliciting you to buy our securities.  We will offer and sell our securities only in states where authorized.  The offering is made solely by the Prospectus. Before investing, you should read our Prospectus.
