Name Change FAQ

What is our new name?

Cooperative Fund of the Northeast, Inc.

When did the name change go into effect?

Monday February 7, 2022.

Why did we change our name?

Primarily, this change reflects the fact that we have deepened our work outside of New England by hiring two New York staff members last year, Johan Matthews and Joe Marraffino. While in the past we have financed a limited number of co-ops in NY State, we are expanding our work in the state, including hiring staff there, and wanted our name to reflect our whole service area.

Is CFNE planning service area expansion beyond New York?

At this time we are not. While this could change, for the foreseeable future, we are limited to New England and New York. We have received some inquiries from other parts of the northeast, and are considering how we might be able to serve more communities in the future. If you are in the Northeast and outside of our service area and seeking financing, feel free to reach out and if we can’t directly help you, we probably can refer you to others who can.

How will this impact our existing loan and investment documents?

It will not. These documents remain intact even with a name change. All new legal documents have the new name as of February 7, 2022.

I see “Funding the Future” as a tagline. What does this mean?

We believe that a humane future is a cooperative future, and that our core activities of financing and supporting cooperative development help birth that future. Additionally, as population growth dynamics result in white people comprising a smaller portion of the population, CFNE’s focus on racial equity is more and more not just about redressing past harm, but becoming even more relevant going forward.

How can I contact you?

Because our new name retains both “Cooperative Fund” and “CFNE”, our emails and website URL remain the same.
